The project Dast&Hand [Dast:Hand in Farsi] was created in response to the Taliban coming back into power in Afghanistan. After researching around many charities we could potentially support through making garments we found the Durkhanum: Sewing Circle. The project supports Afghan women in becoming tailors, helping them to make a stable income.

THE DURKHANUM SEWING CIRCLE

"Durkhanum (meaning strong woman) is the perfect description of our sisters in Afghanistan. Women who are breadwinners, mostly widows, were already living an intensely difficult life in Afghanistan. [...]

In this completely voluntary program, we train these women in a course by a professional tailor, on quality equipment that each woman will keep. They learn design, hand embroidery unique to the Hazara community, and basic English/computer literacy for potential future online sales. "
